Isla Holbox, Mexico

This trip took place in February, 2022 in the northernmost island on the Yucatan Peninsula. A small town ten years ago, Holbox has grown into party central due to its proximity to Cancun but offers some amazing kitewing opportunities! I was able to get a lesson on how to use the wings with the foilboard and it was the best thing I’ve done in a long time! I recently purchased a few kitewings and a foil sup, they work well with a regular SUP if your standing way back on the board. I was expecting to do lots of paddling here in the mangroves only to find out that SUP’s were not allowed in them due to the large number of large crocodiles lurking around…..fair enough. I was able to prove my knowledge and experience of the sport to one company who allowed me to follow on a guided tour (with everyone else in kayaks). Along the way i was told that i was basically nuts by all the other tour operators in the area for being on a paddleboard, lol. Personally i did feel safer than the others due to the fact i was able to see them better while standing and felt confident about using my paddle as a club if necessary. The entire 5 hour tour covered about 8 miles of NO FALL ZONE paddling, it was explained to me afterwards that they have, in fact, had issues with tourists not understanding that concept, hence, your average Joe Tourist is not allowed to do it. Feel free to contact us about more info for Isla Holbox.
